De-icing ensures flying is safe in the winter

FinaviaWintery weather conditions pose their own demands on air traffic maintenance in Finland. Removing ice and frost from aeroplane wings is one of the most important tasks during the cold season.


De-icing is needed when wing surfaces collect impurities, such as ice, snow, or frost. This is done by spraying the wings with a mixture of glycol and water that melts the ice and snow.
