Although
there has been 1 confirmed case in Scotland, the risk of Ebola to the
general public in the UK remains very low. Ebola can only be transmitted
by direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person
or animal.
The recent outbreak of the Ebola virus primarily affects 3 countries in West Africa: Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Over 20,000 cases and 7,000 deaths have been reported globally by the World Health Organisation (29 December 2014).
