TTF Chief Executive John Lee said the sector needs help, not hindrance. “We are calling on the Defence Minister to demonstrate real leadership and direct the Navy to share Garden Island with the cruise shipping industry during peak season, which is only a few months a year,” Mr Lee said.
“If Minister Smith is unable to do this, the Prime Minister needs to intervene and provide certainty for the cruise shipping industry by directing the Navy to provide access to Garden Island for commercial shipping.
“If the government adopts the recommendations of the Hawke Review, that will send a clear message to the cruise sector that it is not valued.
