Japan sees a surge in overseas visitors in first half of 2017

Japan visitors in first halfIn the first half of 2017, the number of foreign visitors to Japan increased 17.4 percent from a year earlier to a record 13.76 million. This was mainly due to a rise in tourists from South Korea.
 
Spending by foreign tourists during the six-month period increased 8.6 percent to a record 2.05 trillion Yen ($18.3 billion), crossing the 2 trillion Yen level for the first time.
