Bridges and Tunnels said Friday the next phase of construction work in
the $235.7 million Verrazano-Narrows Bridge upper level deck replacement
project is set to begin with the demolition of the original 1960s-era
roadway and installation of a lighter-weight, longer-lasting steel
orthotropic deck. A new seventh roadway lane, which will be used as a
