Official says, 2014 Brazil World Cup to strike Peru’s tourism industry

Fifa-World-Cup-2014-BrazilA top official predicted that Peru’s tourism industry would take a hit from the 2014 Brazil World Cup, as it redirects visitors away from the small Andean nation and towards the South American giant.

Carlos Canales, the president of the Lima Convention Bureau, said that the dates of the World Cup, which commences from June 12 and ends on July 13, happen together with Peru’s high season, when hotels, airlines and tour operators traditionally see their largest earnings of the year. He also complained that the World Cup has led to higher regional airfares, as soccer fans from Asia, Europe and the United States hike up demand for flights to South America and Brazil.
