Dominican Republic - Samana: world's most important sanctuary for Humpback Whales

The Bay of Samaná is one of the world’s most important meeting grounds for one of the planet’s largest whales.  Each year, from January to April, thousands of humpback whales travel from the icy waters of the North Atlantic to the warm waters off the coast of Samaná, on the northeast corner of the Dominican Republic.  During those specific months the north coast waters of the Dominican Republic become the playing ground of these large mammals.
