Rapid urbanisation is affecting people’s mobility and the environment in economic centres around the world. Today, half of the world’s population lives in urban centres – by 2050, more than two out of every three people are expected to live in cities and towns. In order to sustain global economic growth while ensuring the health and quality of life of citizens, cities the world over are looking for smarter and more environmentally friendly forms of mass transit compared to the historic dependence on individual car transportation.
