Tourism Australia adopts 'one voice' approach as it seeks further aviation development opportunities

Tourism Australia has taken an important first time lead to coordinate under the one banner and promote with one voice a high level delegation of Australia’s leading airports at Asia’s leading aviation route development forum in an effort to best attract new international capacity. Routes Asia 2012 will be held between April 15-17 at the fast emerging secondary city and largest aviation hub in central western China, Chengdu. Eight Australian international airports - Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth - will be represented on the ‘Australia stand’ which Tourism Australia is supporting and coordinating.

Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy is strongly backing the approach and believes that ‘speaking with one voice’ and adopting a more ‘team Australia’ approach to international aviation development is critical to Australia’s tourism industry best achieving its long term growth aspirations. “Through our industry’s Tourism 2020 growth strategy, Australian tourism has set a clear benchmark to double overnight visitor expenditure to up to A$140 billion annually by the end of this decade. Key to achieving this is a significant and sustainable increase in aviation capacity, particularly from Asia and headed by China, which now represents our fastest growing and most lucrative inbound tourism region,” Mr McEvoy said. VP and Commercial for Routes Nigel Mayes hopes Australia’s collective approach will be adopted by other countries. “We are delighted that the airports of Australia have decided to unite to ensure a team approach with their tourism authority, Tourism Australia, this is exactly what our airline attendees want to see at our events.
