airberlin: New destinations in 2012

airberlin is expanding its hubs in 2012 and improving the route offerings. From Berlin, Dusseldorf and Vienna, airberlin kicks off its summer schedule – partially in place since February – to new destinations and with increased flight frequencies on selected routes. At Berlin’s new airport Berlin Brandenburg (BER), the airline will expand its flight schedule from 9,000 to 10,500 weekly connecting flights at around 750 departures per week. airberlin will offer 70 direct flights from the new airport including five intercontinental routes. Last year, numerous codeshare agreements with future oneworld® partners were also added.

At the International Tourism Fair (ITB) in Berlin, airberlin CEO Hartmut Mehdorn announced: “We have thoroughly reviewed our schedule in recent months. New destinations have been added, efficient routes have been expanded. What was inefficient, has been eliminated.” He added: “We are a network carrier offering global connections to our passengers, thus our schedule will reflect a greater emphasis on our hubs.”
