HKIA: Passenger and Aircraft Movements Start Strong in 2012

Boosted by strong Chinese New Year traffic, Hong Kong International Airport saw its January passenger numbers and aircraft movements rise by 12.5% and 5.8% respectively to 4.9 million and 29,000. A new daily record of approximately 187,000 passengers was also registered on 28 January, the sixth day of CNY.

The growth in passenger traffic last month was mainly driven by Hong Kong resident traffic, which reported a yearly increase of 36% amid the CNY peak travel season. Traffic to/ from the Mainland and South East Asia performed particularly well.
