Athens’ abandoned airport to be transformed into a coastal resort


Athens airportAthens’ abandoned airport complex is destined to be transformed into one of Europe’s biggest coastal resorts if a Greek development company get its way. Hellenikon Airport was opened in 1938 and closed in 2001, is currently housing a makeshift migrant camp.

Hellenikon was once the only airport in Athens, located just 4 miles south of it, and in its heyday served 13.5million passengers. It was
